Then came the Hero Honda Karizma, which not only offered a much bigger quarter liter engine, but also a big bike feel, thanks to its semi-fairing on offer. This particular trait of semi-fairing made the enthusiasts fell in love with the Karizma, and as a result, other manufacturers too began to follow the path of offering semi-faired motorcycles at an affordable price.

Though Indian superbike market was always tilted towards the faired supersports and tourers, but in recent times, other kinds of motorcycles such as naked streetfighters and cruisers too have begun to be accepted and owned widely in the very niche market. Today, every premium motorcycle manufacturer has a liter class naked streetfighter on offer in the Indian market.
Though this scenario was largely fueled by Honda, when it made its venture in the superbike market of India with its potent street fighter, the CB 1000R. The motorcycle, at that time, was one among the handful of superbikes legally available in the country. The CB 1000R, thanks to its popularity on the global platform, became a halo model for Honda in the Indian two wheeler market.
But in the recent times, the competition from new players in this segment, such as Kawasaki, Ducati and Triumph, has raised the bar for the Honda CB 1000R.
